Chipotle Amber Ale Ketchup

Never made a homemade ketchup before, let alone an amber ale chipotle ketchup. I always believe that if you are going to do it, do it huge. This recipe is hot and spicy, and perfect of a cheese-stuffed hamburger…do you sense a future recipe?

Chipotle Amber Ale Ketchup

3 cups


  • ¼ cup amber ale
  • 5 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • 16 oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 2 TBSP butter
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ TBSP coriander seeds
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar


  1. Puree the tomatoes and chipotle peppers in a blender until smooth
  2. In a sauce pan, heat the butter over medium heat
  3. Add the onion and cook until they are golden brown and caramelized
  4. Add in all the spices, a portion of the puree, brown sugar, and vinegar
  5. Stir and season with salt.
  6. Simmer for 40 minutes, uncovered, stirring occasionally
  7. Add amber ale and simmer for another 20 – 30 minutes, until very thick
  8. Pour the mixture into a blender and puree until smooth
